Christopher Leek wins Inaugural "Stay in Kenora 100" Sled Enduro

Lake of the Woods Speedway hosted its first ever winter event with the "Stay in Kenora 100" Single Cylinder Enduro taking place on February 18.

A total of five entries attended the event. While numbers were lower than expected due to cancellations of events in Manitoba as well as last minute cancellations, the race went without a hitch. Attendance to the event was strong with an estimated 300 people watching throughout the 100 laps.

The race had a rolling start with #153 Barry Nielson on the pole. After a wave to the crowd, the drivers hit the throttle for the first of 100 laps. It would not take long for the #17 of Christopher Leek to pull out in front with jostling throughout the five sleds.

On lap 8, a spin and stall in turn four led to the first caution. The sleds lined back up and racing went green on lap 11.

Around lap 20, the #47 of Danton Stahls had engine issues and had to pull off. But around lap 35, Stahls came back on the track only to retire for the rest of the race after it stalled on the frontstretch around lap 45. Plug issues would keep him out of contention.

The #153 of Neilson was also having engine troubles and on lap 55, his motor blew up while crossing the start/finish line. After pulling him off the track, the last 45 laps had the #37 Tyson Bennett, #17 Christopher Leek and #13C Don Rogers racing for all the marbles.

Leek would eventually pull a insurmountable lead by a three lap margin with the victory. Bennett would finish second and Rogers, third.

After trophy presentations, all three drivers had a chance to speak to the crowd. They had a ton of fun and encouraged others to get a sled and come out next year!

Thank you to everyone that helped make the www.stayinkenora.com 100 a great success! We hope for more drivers and an even larger event next year!
